Amdiaquine=AQ, Use and Effect

Function:
Antimalarial: any drugs or medicine use to prevent or treat malaria.
Usage
It is use in combination with artesunate to treat uncomplicated malaria parasite mostly plasmodium falciparum.
In case of severe case of plasmodium falciparum, parenteral therapeutic method is adopted in combination of amodiaquine + artesunate.
Availability
Come in 200mg amodiaquine hydrochloride tablet with combination of 150mg amodiaquine formulation.
Prescription
Children and Adult: 10mg/kg once daily for 3 days.

Precautions
Do not administer to the following patient;
- A patient with a previous severe adverse reaction when treated with amodiaquine
- Hypertesnsive reaction
- Hepatic disorder
- Leucopenia
- Agranulocytosis
- Never administer to a patient is that currently undergoing treatment with efavirenz
Adverse effect
May cause gastrointestinal disturbance
And intense itching sensation
Usage Advice
Pregnancy: no contra indication during 2nd and 3rd trimester. But safety in the 1st trimester is yet establish, at such depend the risk associated with malaria parasite in the 1st trimester, combination of artesunate and amodiaquine can administer if only is the available treatment option.
Amodiaquine should never be used as a preventive measure for plasmodium falciparum.
Always store at temperature bellow 25ºC.
