ATOMIC BOHR’S MODEL

HISOTROY OF BOHR’S MODEL OF ATOM

In the early 20th century, experiment carried by Ernest Rutherford provide that atoms is made up of diffuse cloud of negative charged electron encircle a small, dense, positive charged nucleus. On his experiment Rutherford suggested a planetary-model atoms, which suggested that electron orbit round a solar nucleus, however the planetary-model has some challenges, which is the technical difficulty encounter. The law of classical mechanic predict that electron will give out electromagnetic radiation why orbiting round a nucleus, this law was predicted by Larmor formula. The spinning of electron round the nucleus facilitate loss of energy by the electron, as a result of that it will spiral inward gradually, which will eventually collapse into the nucleus.

This atomic model is dangerous, because it predict all atom are in unstable state. When they move spirally inward, there will be a spontaneous increase of the frequency emission, this result to decrease the size of the orbit, as result of smaller orbital size, facilitate faster movement. It will produce smear, in frequency, of radiate of electromagnetic properties. More also, late 19th century experiments that was conducted with electric discharges has proven that atoms only give light that is electromagnetic radiation at specific discrete frequencies.

This has be a major challenge to early chemist, in other to overcome the challenge, Niels Bohr proposed in 1913, what is now known as Bohr model of atom.
