Laboratory Sampling Techniques

Sampling techniques

On this post we are going to discuss the basic principle of collecting sample for investigation. Sample is the small aliquot taken from a whole sample to represent the entire population.

Before sample can be said to represent the entire population, it must have the quality and composition of the whole sample no matter how small the sample is. Without deviating from our post title we stop hear but we shall fully discuss on sampling in our next post

Sampling technique can simple be refer to method adopted for collecting sample for laboratory investigation

Basically there are two main sampling techniques.

1.Random Sampling

This is a method of sampling in which each item of the population has equal chance of being included in the samples. Random sampling can be from either finite samples or infinite samples.

2.Stratified Sampling

It is a technique employed when population is heterogeneous with respect to the variables (parameters) under study. The population is divided into varying homogeneous groups or strata and random sample is drawn from each stratum and pooled together.
