Nausea and vomiting

Nausea and vomiting are common symptoms that may arise from disease of the gastrointestinal tract, including gastroenteritis or bowel obstruction from medication such as analgesic or digoxin or from nervous system disturbance such as migraine headache or motion sickness. Vomiting is controlled by a vomiting centre located in the medulla oblongata of the brain stem. Identifying and treating the cause is very important especially if the conditions respond well to treatment and its serious if not addressed. A bowel obstruction can occur as a result of adhesion from previous abdominal surgery. Obstruction or decreased bowel motility also can occur with constipation fecal impaction. Such important and treatable course must be ruled out before resorting to antiemetic (serving to prevent or cure vomiting) drugs. The most frequently used antiemetic ade phenothiazine.
