The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pleased to the voters to register for the 2019 general elections before the Aug. 17 closing date fixed by the commission.

INEC, which fixed Aug. 17 as the closing date for registration of voters for the 2019 general elections, furthermore said that its staff were presently functioning to make sure that potential voters got registered in the ongoing Voter Registration (CVR) before the closing date.

The INEC Leader of CVR in Enugu South Council Area, Mr. Johnson Okafor, reveal this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday that the commission had started a clean-up exercise in the 13 wards of Enugu South Local Government Area to guarantee that everyone was registered.

He pointed out that officials accountable for the registration were presently moving from one ward to the other so as not to disfranchise qualified voters.

He additionally said that “as long as the proclamation of the Aug. 17 closing date, officials accountable for registration have been told to cover all areas so as not to omit anyone from the voters’ registration.

“We are now doing a ‘clean-up’ workout in the 13 wards of the council and we have been moving from one ward to another to get people registered.”

According to him, there is huge turnout for the registration as many people choose to do so in the last minute.

Okafor said that the registration was hitch-free and tools used were working well.

 

Mr. Henry Agu, a prospective voter, said there was no difficult with the registration as the exercise had been going on effortlessly.

“Registration has been going on well and I pray it remains till Aug. 17, which is the closing date,” he said.
