Good News’ NOUN mobilized first set of Graduate to NYSC service, Nigerian Law school

National open university of Nigeria (NOUN) is set to mobilized their first set of graduate to National youths service corps (NYSCs). We can recalled that president Muhammad Buhari signed NOUN amended bill into law on the 1st of December 2018.

The amended law give the school the power to operate like other universities in the country.

The information was disclosed by NOUN Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdalla Adamu, on Thursday during the 54 meeting of the Governing Council of the University hold in Lagos, study center yesterday. According to him; the amendment of the act now give the university the powers to mobilise its graduates for NYSC and the Nigerian Law School.

The Prof said that with these amendments act, the university management would approach NYSC and Council of Legal Education for negotiation on the two issues.

‘’Initially, what was missing is negotiation with the two bodies. We have made contact and with the amended act, negotiation with NYSC and Council on Legal Education will soon start,’’ he said.

The prof, also reveal that NOUN would matriculate over 17, 000 students nationwide and used the opportunity to clear the air on the status of its admission via the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

The Chairman, Governing Council of the University, Prof Peter Okebukola, during the briefing commend President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the NOUN amended bill into law .

His statement reads: “The Council of NOUN extended its gratitude to the Federal government, under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari for signing the NOUN Amendment Act which has recently been gazetted and published on 3rd December 2018, as National Open University (Amendment) Act, 2018.

‘’With this recognition, NOUN is placed at par with all recognised universities in Nigeria under the various acts that amended the provision of higher education in Nigerian universities. This further strengthens the university to provide open and distance learning opportunities to millions of Nigerians who otherwise would not have been given such opportunities in ‘closed’ universities due to one difficult circumstance or other.”
