PDP Chapter Chairman in Essien Udim LGA, Mr. Cyril Peter was on Saturday beaten to a pulp by Senator Godswill Akpabio and his men for allegedly resisting moves by Akpabio to rig the result of the Governorship and House of Assembly election in the area. The ugly incident happened in the evening of Saturday at the INEC Office in Afaha-Ikot Ebak.
According to reports, the Senator having sensed the defeat of his party, APC in Essien Udim, invaded the collation centre with fake ballot materials to manipulate figures in favor of his party but was resisted by the Chapter Chairman of PDP, Cyril Peter and others. Senator Godswill Akpabio who arrived the INEC Office in company of his cousin, Ibanga Akpabio, APC Candidate for the House of Assembly seat, Nse Ntuen, APC thugs as well as Army and Police personnel, had forced the EO to sign the manipulated result under duress.
He arrived the collation centre with army and police officers and forced the Electoral Officer incharge of Essien Udim to accept the forged result, but was resisted by the Chapter PDP Chairman for Essien Udim, Mr. Cyril Peter who stood his ground against the rigging plan. In anger, the Senator assisted by Mr. Ntiedo Usoro, Barr. Ibanga Akpabio, Mr. Nse Ntuen, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan and security personnel who accompanied him, beat up the PDP Chapter Chairman and drove away PDP agents who were at the INEC Office. The Electoral Officer for Essien Udim was not spared by Akpabio and his gang, as he was attacked after he made it known to him that he would not be party to the rigging of the results.
