In Nigeria, on May 29, 2019, power will change hands. Some of the incumbent governors will become former governors. These governors will leave our hospitals run-down without Doctors and drugs — our schools without teachers and books and our road worse than the one in the jungle.

However, those governors have used their power within eight (some four ) years to accumulate wealth, which allows them to travel abroad to access the best hospital in the world; can afford to send their children to best schools abroad.

They have money to move their family to Dubai, New York, London, Hong Kong, and the best places in the world. At home, they have created new cities for themselves in Banana Island in Lagos, Maitama, and Asokoro in Abuja.

Power is charming but transient. In his message to King Wen, an elderly eccentric advisor known as T’ai Kung in Chou dynasty of the 11th century BC talked about power and six preservations comprises of benevolence, righteousness, loyalty, trust, courage, and planning.

He spoke about leaders who use their political power to protect and save themselves by harming others in time of trouble or stress. It is an excellent test of characters.

T’ai Kung argued further that “the fortune and misfortune of the State lie with the ruler, not with the seasons of heaven. “If a leader lacks moral worth, then the State will be in danger and the people in turbulence.” On the other hand, if the leader is worthy, the State will be at peace and the people well ordered.

King Wen asked T’ai Kung on what to do to have the honor as a ruler. He told him; “Just love the people.” The King asked further; “how does one love the people?” And T’ai Kung answered as follows;

“Profit them, do not harm them. Help them to succeed, do not defeat them. Give them life, do not slay them. Grant, do not take away. Give them pleasure; do not cause them to suffer. Make them happy; do not cause them to be angry.”

Just closed your eyes and count how many times this outgoing and current leaders have defeated us and forcefully take away what belongs to us from us.
