Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki led the Principal Officers into the chambers; took the official prayers; and began the day’s proceedings at 11:19am.

‪Senator Binta Masi Garba moved for the approval of votes and proceedings of Wednesday, 22nd May 2019. Senator Clifford Ordia seconded.‬

ANNOUNCEMENT
Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki announced Senators Clifford Ordia, Barnabas Gemade, Chukwuka Utazi, Joshua Lidani & David Umaru as members and Senator Baba Kaka as Chairman of the Conference Committee on the National Tobacco Regulation Bill, 2019.

Senator Chukwuka Utazi seconded that the Senate do receive the report of the Committee on Health on Mental Health and Substance Abuse (Est, etc) Bill, 2019 (SB. 720).

1. A Bill for an Act to establish the City University of Technology, Yaba, Lagos and for other matters connected therewith, 2019 (SB. 334) by Senator Gbenga Ashafa.

“I believe it will greatly add to the development of the country. The Yaba University of Technology has been there for many years and the upgrade of its facilities is imperative.I support the speedy passage of this Bill.”- Senator Ibrahim Gobir.

“I support this Bill because it is not asking for a new university to be established, rather, it is asking for an upgrade of the Yaba University.”- Senator Adamu Aliero.

A Bill for an Act to establish the Federal Polytechnic Iwerekun, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State to provide full time courses in technology, applied science management and other fields of studies and to make provisions for the general administration of such polytechnics, 2019 (SB. 709) by Senator Gbenga Ashafa.

“I rise to support this important Bill. Since the Yaba Technology has been upgraded to becoming a university, this will be the only Federal Polytechnic in Lagos.”- Senator Barnabas Gemade.
