It came to us as unbelievable shock seeing on social media videos and pictures of the wife of the majority leader of Edo State House of Assembly, Roland Asoro disobeying traffic lights at 1st East Circular Junction on Sapele Road, having being apprehended by officials of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency, she became rude, arrogant and pour insults on the officials just as she refused to follow them to their office but rather took one of the officers to the Nigerian Army 4 brigade who called for backup. Not only did she stop at that, she further pounce on one of the officials and inflicted bodily injuries on him.
It was further revealed that, her husband in company of his colleagues invaded the office of EDSTMA to further deal with the officials who apprehended his wife having violated a traffic light. The information available is that his colleagues weren’t pleased with the behaviour of Roland Asoro in EDSTMA office.
A close look at the impounded vehicle revealed a government official number plate affixed to it, we cannot remember when she was voted and with the right to government official number plate. It should be noted that, it appears Roland Asoro and his wife do not understand what the position of a lawmaker entails hence the show of shame put up in public glare. How can a lawmaker and his wife turn themselves to lawbreakers in Edo state.
We want to sound it loud and clear to the Managing Director of EDSTMA that, if he fails to fine and prosecute the duo that broke the traffic law and assauted the agency’s official, he should resign from that position as Edo Civil Society Organisations will be approaching the court to compel the agency to enforce the enabling law.
Citizens are being taken to EDSTMA offices helplessly and made to pay fines when they flout traffic laws and regulations, we see no reason the wife of a lawmaker whose husband made same law should be allowed to disobey the law and being aided by her husband with impunity.
To this end, we giving the MD of EDSTMA, 48 hours to publicly show to Edo people receipt of payment in government coffers by the offender or we shall resist further apprehension of Edo people who violates traffic rules by officials of EDSTMA. Nobody is above the law, moreso, this is coming from the wife of a lawmaker.
In some well organised societies, Roland Asoro would have resigned immediately with shame but over here, he will soon hire some Orhionmwon youths who will be defending him and the wife’s public display of shame. We await them as the state belong to all of us. While we are still worried over his role in the controversial electricity theft bill, this dazed us the more.
