let law take its course, Oseni Yakubu respond to Natasha Akpoti

Dr. Oseni Yakubu, of All Progressive Congress (APC) senator elect representing Kogi central has responded to Social Democratic party (SDP), Candidate Natasha Akpoti, over the outcome of the last court hearing of the filed against him, and APC of last concluded senatorial district election in the zone.

Reacting to the outcome through Oseni Media Team, he said “Our attention has been drawn to reports emanating from the quarters of the Kogi Central SDP candidate in the last Senatorial election, Natasha Akpoti, alleging that our principal is jittery of the outcome of the last hearing held on 1st June, 2019.”

He said the public are not awere of the legal process, as such, it has become necessary for him to inform the public

He said, “While we are busy making preparations for the eventful inauguration of the massively-elected candidate of the APC, Dr Yakubu Oseni, we have to inform the public of the obvious ignorance of legal processes on the side of the defeated candidate who is a supposed legal practitioner.”

Oseni also accused Natasha of feeding the court unfounded information, saying that, “Yes, our principal’s Counsels have approached the appellate court to correct some seeming miscarriage of legal processes at the tribunal and this action which is done within the confine of legal procedures, had been misconstrued by the oppositions.

The issue is simple and unambiguous. The Electoral Act provides that petitioners should file their applications/witnesses within 21 days after declaration. Our principal has the right to seek redress if the window of the opportunity for all applications has elapsed and the tribunal gave undue advantage to petitioner to file additional witness statements.

Our Counsels have argued that by granting the petitioner (Natasha) application to file more witnesses is a fundamental departure from the case thereby overreaching the right of fair hearing of the appellant (Dr Oseni) to respond to the new facts.

These are fundamental legal infractions our legal team is trying to seek clarifications on from the higher court and in no way has it sent any ‘jitter’ on the highly focused Senator-elected of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He further advice the general to let the law do it jobs, and they should stop feeding court with unfounded information, that will escalate more problems.

He said “hereby urge individuals to allow the law to take its course instead of making unfounded statements which is capable of heating the polity.
Seeking legal clarifications on undue advantage given to a party in a legal tussle is part of democratic process.”
