THE STORY OF PRINCE EZE MADUMERE’S ALLEGED CRIMINAL CONVICTION IN THE US, RESURFACES Johnbull Chikwe

Not many people are aware that the immediate past Deputy-governor of Imo State, His Excellency Prince Eze Madumere is yet to clear his name of a report of criminal conviction in the United States of America, some twenty something years ago.

When the story emerged sometime last year, the former Deputy-governor’s only defense was that he went to prison on behalf of Owelle Rochas Okorocha. But every reasonable person dismissed that defence as too watery and senseless.

The former Deputy-governor was allegedly investigated and found guilty of FELONY/THEFT OF PROPERTY by the US authorities and he served time in US Prisons before he was freed. His long stay in Nigeria without visiting the US till recently could be as a result of this conviction.

A man who had served time in prison for serious criminal offences like Felony and theft, should not have contemplated holding any public office. It was at founding this out, that the Imo State House of Assembly sometime in 2018 impeached him. One of the reasons given by the House for his impeachment was that going by his criminal record in the US, he was not qualified ab initio to hold any public office. The House of Assembly’s investigation found that he was unfit to hold public office and declared his period as the Deputy-governor of Imo State, as erroneous.
