Uncle mercilessly beat a young child who was accused of stealing a bag in Ikot Ossom, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA Akwa Ibom State.
According to comrades Comr David John who touch when he saw the boy, said “Yesterday I received a report of child abuse in Ikot Ossom, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA Akwa Ibom State and decided to step into the matter this morning.
Information has it that the child was accused of stealing someone’s bag and the uncle he stays with beat him to this extent.
While interacting with the boy I asked him did you steal someone’s bag and he said “The bag was hanging in the bush besides the compound for sometime, and since I don’t have a school bag I decided to make use of it. I didn’t steal it”, it was Victor that gave it to me.
The boy, according to the villagers lost his mother from birth and the father is no way to be found, he stays with the uncle and according to people the man one Mr M. E. Michael has been maltreating the child.
At first I ordered for his arrest, but on hearing from both side I resolved that the man should as a matter of urgency take the child to the hospital for treatment and that has been done accordingly.
The man has promised not to ever beat the child in such manner and I have asked the Men of Nigerian Police Force to Release him since I was able to resolve the matter.
People should know that there other ways of correcting a child aside from beating.
