Kogi APC faction denies endorsing Bello for governorship

The factional secretary of the Kogi chapter of the APC, Salam Tom, Adejoh, has denied the Goveernor Yahaya Bello second term bids endorsement of claimed.

He said that APC’s governorship ticket is open to every qualified party member.

The factional secretary further spoke on Bello’s reported endorsement by traditional rulers in the state; pointing out that the governorship election is not a traditional affair Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Kogi, the factional secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Salam Tom Adejoh, has denied the alleged endorsement of Governor Yahaya Bello’s bid for re-election. Adejoh, in a chat with newsmen on Sunday, June 23 in Abuja, said the governor’s poor performance should not be rewarded with a second term, The Nation reports.

stressing that the party’s executive committee members were not in any position to endorse any aspirants.

He said: “We did not endorse anyone and we are not planning to. The party’s ticket is open to everyone in the party.”

Adejoh insisted that Bello’s endorsement was not discussed during the the last meeting of the state executive committee, which held on Saturday, June 22. He dismissed media reports credited to a faction of the state executive, led by the chairman, purportedly endorsing the governor for a second term. Adejoh narrated the exco’s last meeting with Bello, stating: “Our discussion ended at the need for peace so that the party can move forward. He (governor) said he needed a sincere peace and we agreed on terms. There was nothing like endorsement.

“The terms we agreed on were that our allowances and other packages that we are entitled to would be given to us and we all agreed on these terms.

“The governor requested for the case in court to be withdrawn. We told him there are some processes to be followed.”

Adejoh further spoke on Bello’s reported endorsement by traditional rulers in the state; pointing out that the governorship election is not a traditional affair. According to him, the traditional rulers are not delegates and as such, are not in a position to decide who will be the APC’s candidate. He said they are only entitled to vote at the election.
