Nasir El-Rufai, his retirement of Club 60 Years

“This is why today for instance; Kaura chairman is 36, Jabba 34, Kajuru 36, Kaduna North 33, Lere 35 and Giwa 39. He was also to produce the youngest House of Representatives member, who will be representing Kachia/Kagarko in the 9th National Assembly. The member-elect is 34.”

In the past, persons who were below 30 became ministers in Nigeria, just as persons who were slightly above 30 became Nigeria’s heads of state. But today, such things have become a rarity.

However, one man, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai is gradually returning us to that era, thereby giving the young ones hope that they are indeed leaders of tomorrow.

I may not have been pleased with everything the governor is doing; I will however not hesitate to endorse his gradual re-engineering of the political space in the state in favour of Mayan gobe.

Since he became governor in 2015, apart from having several youths as appointees, the governor took the bull by the horn by ensuring that all council chairmen candidates the party fielded during the last election were between 34 and 40. And most of them won.

This is why today for instance; Kaura chairman is 36, Jabba 34, Kajuru 36, Kaduna North 33, Lere 35 and Giwa 39. He was also to produce the youngest House of Representatives member, who will be representing Kachia/Kagarko in the 9th National Assembly. The member-elect is 34.

Just two days ago, he announced the appointment of a friend, colleague and brother, Samuel Aruwan as a commissioner-designate, to take charge of Internal Security and Home Affairs. In the past, who born Aruwan well to come close to the seat of power, let alone be part of decision makers in the state.

Before El-Rufai happened on Kaduna, what is known as ‘Club 60’, especially in Southern Kaduna, held the political scene by the jugular, thereby relegating the youths to the background.

Mallam El-Rufai, I thank you for this specially, and I hope other governors will emulate this deliberate effort at truly grooming our leaders of tomorrow to take over from the elders. Samaila Baki, congratulations! Allah ya taiyaka rikwo. Amin.
