Avoid Distractions; we are sent here on an assignment

WHY MUST HE BEAT ME?

Many of us have fallen victims of being sent on an errand by our parents only to get distracted and carried away by other things thereby forgetting the mission.
Someone was sent by his father to urgently buy him some food from a restaurant. He left in a hurry because of he understood the import and urgency of the assignment.

However, on his way back from the trip, he stumbled on his mates in a field playing football. He slowed down, began to watch, until he finally stopped. He watched for a while and got carried away. As soon as his attention was fully engaged he indicated his interest in playing and he was invited.

He left the food in care of some unknown persons and with great enthusiasm jumped into the field. Unfortunately, as he played his heart out, he totally forgot the purpose for which he was sent on the errand. He became the man of the game, scoring goals, dribbling opponents, creating winning chances, and he changed the entire game.

When night fell, the owner of the ball picked it up. It was time for everyone to go home, “oya oo… go back to your houses, the game is over!” Everyone left, our friend then remembered for the first time that he was actually sent to buy food by a hungry father. He went to where he kept the plates of food. The plates were empty as the food was already eaten up by goats, ” but I kept this food with some guys here now” he complained tearfully.

He picked up the plates, alas! he was no longer the happy guy who jumped into the field as all the excitement of the game had disappeared; the people clapping for him were gone, oppositions and competitions he had enjoyed during the interesting game was gone, the ball itself was gone, time was gone, those selling food…all gone. He couldn’t even buy another one!

Regret took over as he sluggishly walked home, hiding himself in the shadows of the night as he shed tears of sorrow. When people saw him, they asked him why he was crying and hiding in the dark with empty dirty plates! He had left with clean plates full of excitement, but returned with same empty plates now stained with dirt and bits of stale food!

“Why don’t you just go home?” He was asked. “My father will beat me” was his response. He knew the implications of a wasted life. So sad, too late. Pick your lessons. We have a Home and a Father to return to. Don’t be distracted, don’t rejoice when people are clapping for you while you are doing wrong things, they won’t be there when you are to give account.

Avoid Distractions; we are sent here on an assignment. The Father is waiting for us. This ball we are busy playing, when night comes, the owner will pick it, the crowd will disappear, and we’ll be left alone to go back and give account. What then will you say is the outcome of the assignment you were sent?
