GOVERNOR ABDULLAHI A. SULE USES HIS TWO MONTHS SALARY TO PAY LAND BILLS FOR NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY LAFIA

His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule has again done the unexpected by using his June and July salaries to pay for the Certificate of Occupancy CofO granted to the National Open University Lafia. Governor Abdullahi A Sule
reaffirmed his personal commitment and that of Nasarawa State government to provide qualitative education to it’s people.

Governor Abdullahi Sule gave the affirmation during a courtesy call on him by the management of the National Open University of Nigeria, Lafia Study Centre at the Government House, Lafia on Thursday.

He commended the management of the Open university for the good work of providing the state and its environs with quality education, assuring of his administration’s readiness to support the institution in every way it can as a way of boosting their morale to do more.

While responding to a request to grant waiver of land acquisition charges by the open University Lafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule maintained that he will not on one hand talk of revenue generation and at the same time grant waivers on land charges!
However in his own words, Engineer Abdullahi A Sule declared that:
“Luckily for you, I have not been paid my June salary yet so they are paying me both my June and July salaries at the same time therefore I will pay the bills for you out of my salaries for the months of June and July ” Governor Sule said.

“That will be part of my own personal contribution to the development of education, as I always say, I will continue to support education in every way that I can” Engineer Abdullahi Sule added.

He further pledged to support the University to construct a befitting hall in the institution.

In his remarks, the Lafia Centre Director of National Open University of Nigeria, Professor Alachi James Atu commended the state Governor for his activities in the areas of health, education, youth and women empowerment, revenue generation and attracting investors all aimed at impacting positively on the people of the state.

Professor Alachi maintained that with the institution’s philosophy of “work and learn”, the university provides cost effective, innovative, affordable and flexible education to all Nigerians adding that the institution is supervised by the National Universities Commission.

While appealing for the construction of a multi-purpose hall for the University by the state government, Alachi Atu also called for the intervention of the Governor in order to enable the school take full ownership of the land which was partially developed and donated by the state government in 2007.

“The ministry after its discussion with us wrote to as the University to pay the sum of one million, three hundred and fifty nine thousand, three hundred and twenty naira to cover outstanding compensation and demarcation, survey and title deed plan preparation fees” Alachi added.
