Election tribunal: Middle belt youths blast Wike for congratulating Buhari

  • Youths from the middle bet criticised Governor Wike for his statement on the PDP panel.
  • The party establish the panel to look into the controversy of the minority whip position in the House of Representatives.
  • The youths also lashed out the governor for congratulating President Buhari after the tribunal judgement.

Middle belt youths on the platform of the Middle Belt Peoples Democratic Party Progressive Youth Forum have lashed out at Governor Nyesom Wike over commends made about the party’s panel.

The Rivers governor has recently accused the party’s panel set up by its Board of Trustees to resolve the leadership controversy in the House of Representatives of corruption.

The group said that Governor Wike accused members of the panel of corruption in spite of their statuses in the country and the party.

They also lashed out at the governor for congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the presidential election petition tribunal where he defeated Atiku Abubakar.

The youths said the governor did this in spite of the position of the party.

They said: “As if that was not enough, he not only congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the APC, on his victory over the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, even when the party had just indicated that it would appeal to the Supreme Court, but also thoroughly insulted brother PDP governors.

“Wike boasted and threatened to deal with the PDP, which built him from the scratch, politically. Much as we find these statements very distasteful, disrespectful, embarrassing, arrogant, and bombastic, they only go further to affirm our claims on Governor Wike. To characterise Middle Belt leaders, including elder statesmen, whose political exposure dwarf his, shows that he needs some housekeeping in his political manners.

“Now, we are further convinced that Wike is a man, who cannot thrive without crisis. “

The youths accused the governor of plotting to disrupt the unity of the party and move away from the party.

They asked Wike to tender an unresolved apology and vowed to take actions against the governor.

Recall that Wike explained the reason behind his decision to openly congratulate President Buhari for his victory.

He said although he crossed the party line to congratulate President Buhari over his victory at the election tribunal, his action was far better than some of his colleagues.

Eagle Media TV gathered that the governor said his open congratulatory message was more sincere than those of his colleagues in the PDP who paid nocturnal visits to the president over the same issue.

Speaking on Thursday, September 12, during the funeral service of the mother of a PDP leader in the state, Wike said he knew many people would criticise him.

He said: “I am sure all of you are surprised that I congratulated Buhari. Is it not good for me to congratulate him than to go to his house in the night ?

“Many PDP governors go to see him in his house in the night. I have never gone and I will not go. I won’t go. We are the only state that the federal government refused to pay us our money used to execute federal projects because I don’t go to see him in the night and I won’t go.
