People who have impacted positively to our society in one way or the other must be celebrated.
There are heroes who have made a remarkable efforts in protecting the territorial integrity of Egbura land and safeguarding the life of our people but are not given the acknowledgement they deserve.
We have quite a number of such individuals in Ebgura land from different fields of endeavours one of whom is the late great Alhaji Alhasan Muhammad Dio Ugya. The history of Alhasan Dio heroic community leadership and service to his father land will continue to exist.
The life of our hero ended when hell was let loose in Ukya Sabo, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State during the House of Assembly polls on Saturday may 3rd 2003.
The consequence manifested itself in the unfortunate killing of the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Youth Development, Mrs Memuna Katai on the election day, for forcing and killing of 5 INEC officials who are Egbura Youths and rigging the election in favor of her tribal candidate Hon. Adams her tribal candidate, which results to the riot in Ukya Sabo.
This event lead to the brutal killing of our leader, Alhaji Alhassan Mohammed Dio, in police detention and the illegal arrest of 250 people who are mostly students, old men and Innocent family men of the peaceful Egbura extraction keeping them languishing in detention without court trial for over 2years by the state government.
Many were reportedly died or sustain injuries during the Military invasion on 3rd and 4th of may 2003 with over 45,000 people displaced. I was also one of the displaced and traumatized child, women, and the old, when the obvious post election political or ethnocentric event happened.
As a 13 year old teenager, I spent 7 days in the bush of Onyimowa before my brother took me on a Forest journey through Ogate across to Ohizi down to chikara along the Abuja Lokoja express way, in the night. We spend the night in Aseni village before proceeding to Etegi the next day, then my mother was still alive.
We would do well to remember him as one of the unsung heroes of our generation and Nigeria as a whole, he made an indelible mark through his stand for his people and used that as a channel to teach us to appreciate the purpose of every single individual in the society. I was very privileged to have seen, been sent by an influential hero like Alhaji Alhasan Dio Ugya.
May Allah forgive him and grant him Aljana firdaus.
