Adayi Abubakar Ohere, conduit of leadership

By: Farouk Ozigi Onimisi

There are no doubts that Nigeria is filled with numerous philanthropists. A charitable atmosphere is spread across the country and in the last ten years, there have been lots of emerging charitable foundations and scholarship opportunities launched.

Rich people do not only spend and invest money but try to help others to become a better version of themselves.

Such is the case of my political father and role model, Hon. (Engnr.) Abubakar Ohere, Kogi State Hon. Commissioner For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The pragmatic and quintessential leader has taken out time to redefine the definition of philanthropic paradigm in the lives of citizens found in the nooks and crannies of the confluence state.

Like his principal, GYB, Adayi Ohere has completely changed the nutritional, academic, moral, entertainment and security lives of those around him (relations and non-relations) thus giving hope to the hopeless.

In his personal philosophy of leadership, there is abiding traits of warmth, trust and communion as the fundamental necessities of instilling a paradigm shift in governance especially at this sand of time Nigeria is facing a trying economic reality. Therefore, even though he parades extensive academic competencies and professional strength as a Mining Engineer, he rather dons the garb of a Social Engineer.

He insists that as a leader, warmth democratic practice should be key conduit of influence that facilitates stakeholders’ trust, confidence, communication and absorption of strategic ideas that are necessary to reboot developmental aspirations in Kogi State as defined in the New Direction Blueprint of His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, a young man from Agassa.

Hon. Ohere believes that change is sacrifice; a sacrifice that is sometimes intractable and makes true leadership difficult because it involves deep ideated conflicts, valued laden issues and of course, our concept of loyalty. A true change is inherently disruptive and may initially cause distress and dislocation as it takes place. People do not necessarily resist change but the sacrifice embedded in its processes.

Adayi Abubakar Ohere has continued reflecting on the fundamental basis of leadership that guarantee sustainable development in our state and nation especially at trying economic periods.

An avid reader with a consummate passion for strategic socio-political re-engineering, he insists that unlike technical challenges that could be fixed with existing knowhow, standard routines and processes, socio-political challenges in the state rather lies essentially within our people.

He is convinced that unavoidable necessity to learn new ways and give up the old familiar but comfortable habits is the roots of inadequate development. It is this adaptive change that challenges a true leader that he is to prioritise what is preciously essential from what is purely expendable.

Watch him as he leads thousands of Kogi citizens to the reelection of his principal, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello and his running mate, Chief Edward Onoja, in the forthcoming November 16th gubernatorial election of Kogi State.
