39 bandits killed by Army in Zamfara

At list, 39 armed bandits have been killed by Nigeria soldiers in two different operations in Zamfara State, 19 of the bandits were killed in an encounter with the Army in the bushes of Anka while the 20 were killed in Bakura.

The state Government urge Unrepentant bandits to surrender their arms to constituted authorities and embrace the peace initiative by the state government.

Captain Oni Orisan, Operation Hadarin Daji spokesman, who disclosed this to NAN on Saturday, October 12 said the operations were carried out in Bakura and Anka axis of the state.

Omoko Shaban learn that Orisan said 19 of the bandits were killed in an encounter with the Army in the bushes of Anka while the 20 were killed in Bakura.

Orisan stated that the soldiers would not attack any repentant bandit. He, however, said that those unrepentant ones who carry guns and move around in large numbers would be treated as hostile.

He advised the unrepentant bandits to surrender their arms to constituted authorities and embrace the peace initiative of the state government.

Since the beginning of the peace and reconciliation initiative about five months ago, peace has returned to many communities.

The chief of Army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, visited the state recently and promised that the Army would continue to work for the sustenance of peace in the state.

Earlier report, reveal that 9 soldier were killed in he state recently by the bandits.

The incident was revealed by military and civilian sources who stated that a military post in the remote village of Sunke, Zamfara state was invaded by dozens of gunmen on motorcycles.

According to residents, the troops were attacked by the bandits in retaliation for the killing of their comrades following a military raid on their camps in a forest nearby.
