You come in as a young boy, you serve your Oga for 7years.
Your servitude doesn’t just include the shop, you live with him, you serve him at home too.
Wash his clothes, wash his cars, clean the house, fetch water, take care of the kids and run all his errands.
You do all these for 5-7yrs and then he settles you with money and a shop.
Then, from scratch you begin to build, begin to grow steadily.
So it takes at least 10years to stand on your own in Ochanja market.
But 10 years for a lot of those young men just got wiped out in 30 minutes.
This is what this country does to you.
This fire reinforces and painfully so that this country is never ready for any disaster.
We are all sitting ducks.
You can work and build an empire for 3 decades and watch it burn to the ground in 30mins.
This is what Nigeria offers.
The only disaster we have ever won as a country happened because Dr. Adadevo decided to sacrifice herself to save Nigeria from the Ebola disaster.
The Ebola would have ravaged millions of people. That’s how much inept we are.
As at 11pm last night, some places were still burning. For good 10hrs+, lives and properties burnt to the ground and nothing was done.
A state that has a Governor, a region that has a senator and House representatives. A locality that has a chairman, and a market with an economy running into billions.
For 11hrs, it burnt and nothing was done. Just cries and wails.
Nigeria is irredeemable.
