INEC: Gov. Bello cannot be disqualified from governorships race, because No constitution that said so

Independent National electoral commission (INEC) has said that the issue of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State double voters Card registration is still pending.

INEC Chairman, Mahmud, in statement said that, as Governor, he is immune from being Prosecuted, Section 308 (1)(a) of 1999 constitution as amended, said that Governor cannot be prosecuted for a crime committed when he still in the office, as such INEC cannot prosecute Governor Yahaya Bello for now, pending when he vacates the office.

INEC in a statement, further said that, the punishment of the offence of double voters registration, if found guilty, is a fine of N1 Million or one years imprisonment, or both.

But as at now, Bello cannot be disqualified because no constitution that said so.
