The dlData Day: Kovacic Influential in Watford Win

Mateo Kovacic produced yet another dominant performance in midfield according to the statistics from our win at Watford…

Just as against Burnley the weekend before, the Croatian made the most passes and successful dribbles of anyone. He spent the most time on the ball and his three tackles won was a joint game-high figure.

Kovacic completed 135 of his 141 passes at Vicarage Road, equating to a remarkable 96 per cent success rate.

He was in possession 11.7 per cent of the time, had 157 touches of the ball and was successful with four dribbles, a figure matched by Christian Pulisic.

As a team we had a 62.7 per cent share of possession, and completed 90 per cent of our passes.

Kovacic’s midfield partner Jorginho was also heavily involved in midfield, completing 117 of his 125 passes. He also made three interceptions. Only Kurt Zouma, with four, managed more.

Willian made a game-high four key passes.

Ten of our 16 shots were on target. Mason Mount had a game-high five efforts, followed by Tammy Abraham who had four.

Pulisic hit the target with each of his three attempts, including the one that found the net. Of the American’s nine combined goals and assists this season, eight have come away from Stamford Bridge.

Watford had 12 efforts, of which three were on target and four were struck from outside the box. Ben Foster’s header in the last minute was the only ‘big chance’ they created from open play.

Cesar Azpilicueta was solid defensively, winning the highest number of aerial duels (six) on the pitch.
