The state workers unions” leaders and executives commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his leadership style.
The unions” Chairmen and Executives who met with the governor in government house lokoja said they are encouraged and happy with the way he disbursed the balance of bailout fund of N30.8bln for the payment of salaries amongst the state and local government workers.
The Chairman of the NLC Comrade Onuh Edoka said though there are some demands to be met but governor Bello remains their preferred governorship candidate in the November governorship election.
Comrade Edoka requested of the governor to ensure local government teachers’ salaries be increased from 50% to reasonable percentage; that governor should direct the head of service to release allocations paper of houses approved for civil servants through house scheme project to them.
And finally to lift proscription placed on university and other higher institutions unions in the state.
The NUT leader called on governor bello’s intervention to ensure teachers still on pardon list are duly paid and some still on uncleared list are thoroughly accessed to allow them be brought back to payroll list.
The head of service Ogunmola Deborah said many teachers affected have refused to submit their evidences to their claims in terms of certificates acquired and other vital information needed to be cleared even when she called and sent messages to them.
She urged them to help meet the desire of the government to reinstate them on the payroll by providing all document needed to backup their claims.
Governor Bello has promised to address all their demands now and after the election.
He has given the head of service ultimatum to release all documents of house scheme to beneficiaries before the election.
Governor Bello also disclosed government plans in his second term to provide house scheme facilities that will qualified senior citizens and civil servants in the state to own a house each which will be designated in each local government across the state.
On the University and other Higher Institutions unions proscription, governor Bello said his administration will not give express answer ‘yes’ to lift the embargo but will resolve with the NLC and Executives for possible consideration for better alternative that will be acceptable between the unions and the government after the next academic session.
Governor Bello promised the teachers that their salaries will definitely be upgraded from what it use to be to a far better percentage even more than what the unions are agitating for.
He promised to provide all necessary supports and modern tools required to make learning and teaching environment conducive for teachers and pupils/students.
Key unions and leaders present are NULGE, TUC, NUT and others.
