APC NEC Meeting: Oshiomhole running from pillar to post to save his job as national chairman

…pushing for postponement of NEC meeting to buy more time

As the much-awaited All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting draws close, there are strong indications that the embattled National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is making frantic efforts to save his job.

Investigations showed that Comrade Oshiomhole, who has been enmeshed in a face-off with the leadership of the APC in his home state, Edo, has been running from pillar to post in Abuja, brandishing the gubernatorial victories in the Bayelsa and Kogi polls as his bargaining chip.

A source, who is a member of the National Executive Committee of the APC, said Adams Oshiomhole has been making frantic calls to members of the NEC to appeal to be retained as National Chairman of the party.

According to him, “Oshiomhole has been running from pillar to post, brandishing the victories in Bayelsa and Kogi as reasons why he should remain in office. But we are seeing beyond the charade. His time is up. There are so many missteps, contestations and abuse of processes that has eaten deep into our fortune as a party as a result of his highhandedness and arrogance.

“We all know that the election in Bayelsa was won by deals struck with the former President, Goodluck Jonathan, as well as the doggedness of Minister of State for Petroleum, Hon. Timipre Sylva. They take the glory. Even at that, we are still not so sure of the victory because of the shoddy primaries supervised by Oshiomhole there. In Kogi, we were confident of victory because we had a strong candidate in the governor, Mr. Yahaya Bello.”

Another source, who is privy to the internal horse-trading ahead of the NEC meeting, said Oshiomhole is marking efforts to force the postponement of the meeting so that he would have more time to win the hearts of members of the NEC, who he had alienated for over a year since assuming office.

“He is pushing for postponement of the meeting. He wants more time to hoodwink some NEC members that he had treated with disdain for some time. But we are ready for him.”
