● Why the Award?

Govenor ishaku began his tenure as Govenor of Taraba state on May 29, 2015 with a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve for the state. This was spelt out in his popular Green book, which is a comprehensive documentation of the policy direction of his administration. He wanted to provide water , electricity, improve the standard of education, rebuild ailing or dilapidated infrastructure, empower women and youths ,revive agriculture in a manner that farmers and farming will assume a far more enviable position in the society and enhance transportation bu building roads and complete the Jalingo Airport project in order to attract investors to the state and improve transportation generally.

But to achieve these he needed a peaceful environment which was non-existent at the time he assumed office on May 29, 2019. He inherited a state that can ,at best, be described as “in pieces ” communal feuding was rife. There was mutual suspicion among most communities in the state. But Ishaku was not discouraged. Rather he took the olive branch round the state with his now popular slogan of “Gove me peace and i will give you development ”

These efforts paid off. Peace gradually returned and Ishaku went to work. Today the state had seen a lot of changes on socio-economic development. His commitment to the provision of water is informed by his beliefs that regular supply of portable eateries a major way of disease prevention and promotion of healthy living among the people.

Within his first week in office as Governor Ishaku released funds to the Taraba state water supply Agency with a stern directive to restore water supply across the state which had been without 2ater for 11 months and that taps must begin to flow.

He collaborated with the African Development Bank (AfDB), Japan International cooperation Agency (JICA) and the EU. The water innovation in Taraba state had not only boasted regular supply but has ensured management efficiency.

In 2017, WAEC scores in Taraba state Jumped from the embarrassing record of less than 20 percent in 2015 to 67.3 percent in 2017. In 2018, the scores jumped again to 75.3 percent. These are few among the so many that he has achieved in his 4 years in office and has gained him this prestigious Award.
