Kogi West Reruns: Okun People Voted Smartly – Senator Oseni

The Senator representing Kogi Central, Senator Yakubu Oseni has congratulated members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Smart Adeyemi and the entire people of Kogi West Senatorial District on the victory of the party in the just concluded supplementary election in the district.

This came on the heels of the conclusion of the Kogi West supplementary Senatorial election in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Senator Adeyemi winner, having polled total votes of 88,373 against his major challenger, Senator Dino Melaye who recorded 62,133 votes.

Senator Oseni who described the decision of the people to vote Senator Smart Adeyemi as a smart political decision, belauded the victorious Adeyemi as a thoroughly bred and morally upright Okun man who has not only excelled in journalism profession but has represented his people well in the Red Chamber.

”Whoever was in doubt that Kogi State belongs to the APC should be convinced now. With 25 members of Kogi State House of Assembly, 7 members of the House of Representatives, 3 Senators and a sitting Governor, we are now fully in tune with the central government for speedy dividends of democracy,” he said.

“Every politics is local and the will of the people in democracy has once again being pronounced. A constituency cannot afford to have a representative at the National Assembly whose belief, lifestyle and moral upbringing is at variance to his supposed constituents,” he added.

It would be recalled that the victory of Senator Dino Melaye on the 23rd February general election was challenged in the court by Senator Smart Adeyemi who alleged electoral irregularities. The relief sought by Senator Adeyemi was granted which eventually lead to the nullification of the election and later, a re-run election which was conducted alongside gubernatorial election on the 16th November.

As a result of cancellation of votes in many polling units due to disruption on the 16th, the INEC declared the election inconclusive with Senator Smart Adeyemi leading with over 20,000 votes.

The INEC later set 30th November for conclusion of the election and Senator Smart Adeyemi was subsequently declared winner having polled the highest accumulated votes.
