David Wodi, Aguma of Turunkun Chiefdom seek help of Nasarawa State Gov. Sule for Bassa to returned back to Toto Local Govt Council

The Aguma of Turunkun Chiefdom, Dr. David Wodi has seek the help of Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Sule, for Bassa Kwomu to return back to Toto Local Government council.

According to press Statement release on Wednesday on the 8th of January 2020, titled “office of HRH, Dr. David Wodi Tukura, the Aguma of Bassa, Turunku Chiefdom, Toto LGA, Nasarawa state, Nigeria”, signed by Jibreel Gimba., said

“The Return of the Bassa Back To Their Homeland- HRH Aguma of Bassa Mobilizes Executive Support From the Government of Nasarawa State.

  1. In the bid to ensure the return of the Bassa People back to their homeland, HRH Dr. David Wodi Tukura and Council have been in Lafia capital of Nasarawa State to meet His Excellency Engr A.A. and the relevant authorities.
  2. Yesterday the 7th of January 2020, HRH and his Chiefs had audience with His Excellency, Engr A. A. Sule where the Aguma gave a situation report on the the role of the Bassa in maintaining the present peace in Toto Local Government Area. HRH reported how the Bassa have sustained seven (7) months of uninterrupted peace and non-aggression. HIs Excellency was full of praises for the Bassa People and vowed to commence preparations for the return of the Bassa as soon as possible.
  3. In his address, HRH listed the imperatives for the return of his people, mainly securing the main entries into and exits out of Toto; temporary shelter in the staging areas; secure shelter in Turunku the seat of the Aguma’s Palace and Ugya and Gadabuke as a major collection points. Other imperatives include the provision of food for the returnees; medical supplies and portable water. Governor Sule in his response pledged to place the return of the Bassa People on his topmost agenda in the Expanded Security Council Meeting which took place later that day. In attendance at the Meeting was the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Aliyu Tijani.
  4. In order to galvanize more Government support for the return of his people, HRH and Council visited prominent members of the Government. This included a visit to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Dr. John Mamman; the Chairman of the All Peoples Progressive Congress Mr. Philip Tatari. Continuing his drive to marshall Government support HRH visited the Commissioner Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Alhaji Yusuf A. Turaki, Turakin Awe, who pledged to give all the necessary support to actualize the return of the Bassa people to their homeland.
  5. HRH proceeded to attend the Meeting of the State Council of Chiefs which commended at about noon today the 8th of January 2020. The Chairman of the Council in his opening statement declared that His Excellency Engr A.A Sule had ordered the State Council of Chiefs to discuss the return of the Bassa People with a view to removing all the obstacles that could stand in the way of a firm commitment on the part of the royal fathers who are stakeholders in the matter.
  6. All these administrative and diplomatic forays on the part of HRH and Council is aimed at ensuring that all the necessary administrative and executive support is mobilized to actualize the home return of the Bassa People back to Toto LGA as soon as practicable.
