A Nigerian lady posted on a social media group about her ordeal with her mother in law, she said “ Normally I hate to bring up my family issues online but I have to pour it out here so you guys will judge this issue.
I married my husband in 2015, since I married him, we have not stayed for a complete month without having quarrels about his mum.
Though my mother in law doesn’t live with us, this woman will send cooked food to my husband if a relative or family friend visits us from the village.
I have complained several times to my husband but he always waves it aside telling me that I should understand her, he is the only child she has. I tried to over look her attitude.
Do you know that this woman entered the kitchen when I was cooking to inspect my food when she came around one certain time. Hmm…this one, I made sure she never neared my kitchen again. I gave her a serious warning, told her that she should never dictate for me in my kitchen.
She can do what ever she want in her own house not mine. This woman waited till her son came back from work and started crying. I was confused, if you see how she cried, you will think that someone just died. She told my husband that I insulted her.
There was no insult she didn’t claim that I used on her. I was shocked when my husband started shouting on me in front of her. He didn’t even ask me to narrate my side of the story. I got angry, as he was shouting, I was responding too. Could you believe that he didn’t eat my food, he just slept like that. Next day, I just greeted and went ahead to prepare breakfast.
Mere looking at my face, he knew that I was still angry. He tried to play with me but I didn’t respond. He got angry and went to work. When he came back from work, he asked me to forgive him. He said that he should have listened to me first before concluding.
We settled. I don’t know what my husband told his mum, that made her not to enter my kitchen again.
One Sunday morning, we just dressed up to go to church. This woman hurriedly over took me and sat in front of the car. I called my husband out privately and told him to tell his mother to sit at the back. He told me that if I don’t want to enter the car and go to church, I should stay at home.
I didn’t say anything I just entered the house, sat down in our sitting room, waiting for my husband to in come, so we could iron things out.
He drove out and went to church. When he came back, he refused to discuss anything with me concerning his mum. Am thinking of filing for a divorce since he has chosen his mum over me. The issue is getting out of hand and am too young to die.
