Brief History of Late Senator A. Tijjani Ahmed of Kogi Central

Late Sen. Ahmed Tijjani Ahmed a prominent politician from Kogi Central was born on May 29, 1943 into the great Islamic family of Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Rufai of Okene. He attended NA Primary School, Okene; obtained his first degree from College of Technology (ABU) Zaria in 1962 and two Masters degree from UK in 1971.

Before plunging into politics, he served his fatherland in various capacities in the Aviation industry before becoming the Managing Director of Nigeria Airports Authority from 1978 – 1985 at age 35 years. He joined politics in 1987. He was elected Senator in 1992 – 1993 on the platform of SDP. He was re-elected Senator in 1999 on the platform of PDP.

With his detribalize nature of life, in 2003 PDP Governorship Primary, the former Governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris could not defeat him on the first ballot until after the run – up with a small votes.

This was a man who stopped in a town called Gegu Beki close to Koton Karfe to rescue some accident victims & pay their hospital bills and died 30 minutes later in an accident on June 10, 2006. May his be granted Aljanatul Firdausi, amin.
