SAFE OUR SOUL(SOS)
BIROKO AND EGBURA COMMUNITIES UNDER SIEGE BY BASSA KOMU AND AGATU MILITIAS FROM BENUE STATE
Biroko and Egbura communities in Bassa LGA are under siege by Bassa Komu and Agatu Militias.
On the 8th January, 2020 the executive Governor of Kogi State Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello gave an executive order for all the displaced communities to returned to their ancestral homes. As a follow up this order. On the 14th January, 2020 the Biroko community under Mozum district return to their ancestral home with the support of security personnel.
From the date of their return, the Biroko community have been under intimidation, harassment and use of provocative words against them. As this was not enough, the Bassa Komu community resorted to physical attack.
On Friday 14th February, 2020 the community came under heavy attack that forced even the security personnel stationed in the community to vacate the town. This attack was presided with forceful harvest of the Biroko community fishing ponds by the Bassa Komu communities and hired Agatus Militias from Benue State who arrived with sophisticated weapons.
We the Mozum Concerned youth Advocacy (MCYA) wish to call on the State Government, the security agents and the relevant stakeholders to urgently come to our rescue.
The Bassa Komu and hired Agatu militias have besieged on the Egbura Biroko community in Bassa LGA and threaten even the security personnel with their sophisticated arms. As we speak there are built up intention and plans by the militias to further attack other Egbura communities before down.
Before now, the Bassa Komu militias layed ambush on the military vehicle on duty on Sunday 30th june 2019. A community with the capacity to confront military personnel cannot be trusted to be on the path of peace. We are therefore concerned with the life and properties of our people.
We wish to thank His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Executive Governor Kogi State for all he did to arrest the volatile situation before now. We will appreciate if His Excellency will direct for a strict adherence to the order of 8th January, 2020 for the return of all the displaced communities.
Thank you all
