Niger State Govt approves N5.7b for construction of 1,220 Unit Housing Estate in Dikko

The Niger State Government has approved the sum of N5.7Billion for the construction of one thousand, two hundred and twenty (1,220) units Housing Estate in Dikko along Abuja-Kaduna road.

This was part of the several approvals at the weekly State Executive Council (Exco) meeting presided over by the Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello.

Briefing newsmen on issues related to Ministry of Lands and Housing at the weekly meeting, the Commissioner for Lands and Housing Barrister Mukhtar Nasale said the project, which will be in phases, will kick start with four hundred (400) units at the cost of over N1.8 Billion this year 2020, followed by another four hundred (400) units next year 2021, while the remaining four hundred and twenty (420) will be executed in the year 2022.

Barrister Nasale said the construction is in partnership with a private firm, Family Homes Front.

The Commissioner also explained that a committee has been constituted to carry out house to house verification exercise at the Talba Housing Estate stressing that there is a repayment outstanding to the tune of over N1Billion which, he noted, has hindered progress in the desire of this administration to provide decent and affordable housing accommodation for its citizens.

He said one month notice for repayment will be given to the affected occupants.

On the Madalla Housing Estate, which is at 90 percent completion, the Commissioner said modalities are in place to ensure bottlenecks are resolved for speedy completion of the project for the benefit of Nigerlites

The Commissioner said the issue of about sixty (60) hectares of land allocated to three (3) private firms for industrial constructions at Garam Industrial Park in Tafa Local Government Area was also addressed and it was resolved that they should be given a timeframe to develop it otherwise the allocation will be revoked.

He said a land proposed for Suleja City, adjacent the Industrial Park, has been severely encroached due to lack of payment of compensation in the past adding that discussions are on between the present administration and the locals to ensure that the issue is resolved amicably.
