Tensions in Kogi Communities as Fulani’s herdsmen prepared to lunch Attacks on the communities

Tension has gripped the people of Agbenema in Opada/Ofejiji ward in Omala local government area of Kogi State on Saturday as they got information that fulanis herdsmen’s are preparing to lunch attacks on the community.

According to one of the village resident who speak to newsmen in his hideout said that people has fled the community for fear of been attack by Fulani herdsmen, following a hunters and farmers who allegedly break the news that they saw herders camped in a popular forest boundary between Omala and Bassa local government area of the state, claiming that they were preparing for an attack on Agbenema village and its surrounding communities.

He said unverified rumours had come into the community last year about Fulani’s herdsmen preparing to attack the community, but was not taken seriously by the villagers.

The community was attacked 2019 by armed Fulani’s herders that lead to the death of some villagers before Local vigilante intervene. But on this case, youth and local vigilante have been mobilized into the forest, adding that they have to flee because the villagers could not initially confirm whether proactive measure were being taken by the local hunters or not.

“The tension started yesterday, and we are not sure if our vigilante has been drafted, so we had to run away to avoid what happened to us last year.

“By the time we got to know that hunters and the vigilante have gone into the forest, we had all deserted Agbenema.” He said
