I lost PhD admission at ABU last year simply because my 1st and 2nd degrees were at NOUN – Shiku Cyprian

Shiku Cyprian, former Student of National open University of Nigeria was denied admission in Ahmedu Bello University (ABU) Zaria because he obtained his first and second degree from National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Cyprian disclose this in a post, he share to NOUN Facebook Group.

The young man also disclosed that he was denied lecturing Job for the same reasons.

He said he is currently doing master in one of the conventional university in Nigeria.

He conclude by advising NOUN students who were think of obtaining first and second degree from NOUN to rethink.

He said “ATTENTION!!!
My dear Nounites, there is a saying that “When a frog in front fall in a pit, others at the back take caution”. I’m a proud NOUN Alumna, first set of degree graduates (2012) and also first set of M.Sc. graduates (2015). But I must caution you so you wouldn’t face the same problem some of us are facing. Those of you that have finished your first degree, don’t enrol for your masters in NOUN, go to a conventional university, our system is full of discrimination. I lost PhD admission at ABU last year (even when I was sent admission letter online) simply because my 1st and 2nd degrees were at NOUN. This year too, I missed a lecturing job for the same reason. I had to enrol for another MSc this year in a conventional university in order to correct what I may call ‘unjustifiable discrimination’. Yes! NOUN is a credible federal university, but because of its mode of learning, many universities and employers of labour are still having doubts about the intellectual acumen of its graduates. Proud to state that I have erased that notion in my own organization and encourage you people to do same. NOUN alumna are properly baked, but it will be better for you to do your 2nd degree in a conventional university to obviate this discrimination. A word is enough for a wise. Thanks . One ”
