Covid-19: Traders Throw Stones on police who come to arrests them in the market for violating Lockdown order in Akwa Ibom

some traders mainly women allegedly throw stone at policemen who come to arrest them for violating lockdown order in Akwa Ibom State.

The incident which happen this morning at Ikot Ambang market in Ibiono Ibom LGA of Akwa Ibom State didn’t not prevent the police to arrest some of the traders.

Harrison Essien who give the report, said that some of the women were arrested and will be arraign today for violating the order.

Essien said “Report just coming in has it traders at the popular Ikot Ambang Market in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State are throwing stones at Policemen who came for the arrest of the traders for violating stay at-home order against spread of COVID-19.

The Uyo-Ikot Ekpene Highway where the market is located, has been taken over by the Policemen who came in several trucks to arrest the traders.

A good number of the traders majority of them: women have been arrested and are likely to be arraigned today at the Magistrate Court in Uyo, designated to hear cases of non compliance with the restriction of movement order by the State government.

While the younger traders managed to escape on sighting the Policemen, the elderly ones were not strong enough to run away.

Foodstuffs are scattered in the process with the arrested traders pleading with the Police to forgive them as they came to the market to meet ends meet.”
