By Femi Fani Kayode
It is with the utmost sadness that I received the news, in the early hours of this morning, that our father and leader, Chief Richard Akinjide SAN, CON, who was the Minister of Education in the First Republic, the Minister of Justice in the Second Republic, a great nationalist, a political juggernaut, an erudite and senior member of the British and Nigerian Bar and an elder statesman has passed on.
He was a great man with a brilliant and incisive mind and he was a trusted colleague, political associate and close friend of my late father Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode SAN, Q.C. CON. We loved and reverred him.
My commiserations and prayers are with his family and particularly to his daughter and my dear sister Jumoke Akinjide, who was the former Minister of FCT, his son Mr. Yomi Akinjide, who was at Cambridge University with me and his daughter Bukola, who was at London University with me.
The South West and indeed Nigeria has lost a great son and worthy leader. May the Lord grant his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss and may his soul rest in peace.
