Akwa Ibom State Reject 10 vehicles donated by ExxonMobil to fight COVID-19 in the State

10 vehicles donated by ExxonMobil for COVID-19 fight in Akwa Ibom, have been rejected by the State Government.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Udoh in a statement issued today in Uyo, described the vehicles as “very old and used” saying the decision for the rejection was taken at the State COVID-19 Committee meeting after the evaluation of the vehicles and other donations by the oil giant.

According to the statement “the vehicles are considered too old and not in good enough operational conditions to withstand the rigors of contact tracing which they were meant to serve.”

It said the Akwa Ibom “State government has however accepted the two ambulances and 20 hospital beds from ExxonMobil, despite that the ambulances are converted buses while the beds are below standard of those in secondary healthcare facilities in the State.”
