The Palliatives’ Committee set up by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum moved into Old Maiduguri ward of Jere Local Government for the distribution of food items to 3,000 households.
Each beneficiary received one bag of 10kg rice, two cartons of noodles, 3 litres of cooking oil, one bag of 25kg maize flour, and some condiments.
About 14,000 people so far benefited in Jere Local Government since the exercise was kicked off in Bale Galtimari ward by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on 13th May, 2020.
Speaking during an interview, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, who doubles as the palliatives’ distribution Chairman, Engr. Bukar Talba said despite the relaxation of the lockdown, the distribution will continue to other Local Governments, and an additional 40,000 beneficiaries was directed by the Governor.
“We have so far reached two Local Governments; MMC, and Jere. Let me assure you that we will reach out to the remaining Local Governments despite the lockdown relaxed. We will continue insha Allah” Engr. Talba assured.
Chairperson of SEMA and the Committee’s Secretary, Hajiya Yabawa Kolo said the committee would ensure transparency, accountability and equity in the discharge of its responsibilities.
