Eket Council Helmsman,Hon.Frank Archibong, yesterday at Eket Council Hall received members of the Directorate of Agricultural Investments,Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation during the flag off/ training of village enumerators in Eket LGA.
Speaking during the exercise,Mr Archibong urged all village enumerators assigned to gather data of farmers in Eket LGA to do proper verification exercise in order to boost food sufficiency in the area.His words “as Governor Udom Emmanuel meant well for us,it is proper we also push him to succeed.”
Speaking further,Pastor Umo Eno,Executive Director,Agricultural Investments, AKS Investment Corporation, hinted that Akwa Ibom State Government is set to increase its investments in the Agricultural sector to boost food sufficiency and economy of the state.
He added that the government is focused on improving the agricultural sector of the state, due to its high investment potentials and ability to increase wealth creation.
Pastor Umo Eno enumerates the aims of farmers enumeration to include the following; developing a detailed data base of farmers which will in turn pin – point the needs and challenges of farmers in a geographical location and also draw out solutions to their needs,which will help in developing government policy and programmes regarding food security.
Moreover, he pointed out that if every individual should invest in the sector, Akwa Ibom State would soon be flooded by investors. “Such produce like palms trees, cocoa, cassava Bamboo, tomatoes, and also fisheries and livestock are sources for high returns as such any farmer or area that excels in the cultivation of any crop attracts loans and processing plant which would, in turn, produce more revenue to the farmers, Eket LGA area and Akwa Ibom State.
Also speaking,a Director of the Agricultural board,Sir Gabriel Nkanang,reiterated his Excellency’s commitment towards Agricultural development in Akwa Ibom State.
He urged all farmers both subsistence and commercial to see farming as a profitable venture and not as a hubby.
Sir Nkanang also advised all village enumerators to collate data of farmers, to be diligent duties assigned to them.
Present at the event were; Sir Gabriel Nkanang, Director Agricultural Investments, AKS., Pastor Aniedi Usoro, Secretary Eket LGA, Hon.Engr. Kufre Ekpe, Leader Eket Legislative Council, Hon. Francis Ebitu, Councillor representing Ward 3 Urban, Comrade Mfon Bassey, SA Media to Chairman, Eket LGA and Elder Esop ATANG, the Program Coordinator, representing the Ministry of Agriculture.
