“We are not taking that risk yet”- Presidential taskforce responds as regards the reopening of schools.

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has responded to the reports that the reopening of schools will commence on the 8th of June, 2020, amid the current pandemic.

The minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba explained that the reports are false, saying “until we are sure that these children can go to school, return safely and not bring home with them, this COVID material, and infect people who are more susceptible to the disease than they are, then we are running a huge risk and God forbid that in our hurry, something happens to our children, I’m not sure how anybody will be able to retrieve what would have been lost, so we are not taking that risk yet”.

This response by Nwajiuba has definitely cancelled the fears of the masses and although, schools will not reopen soon, he states that efforts are being made to ensure that education can still go on despite the pandemic.
