Court convicts 16 violators of COVID-19 measures in Edo state

16 persons have been convicted by a mobile court sitting in Benin City, Edo State, for violating the Edo state Dangerous Infectious Diseases Prevention Regulations, enforced by the government to curb the spread of the disease in the state.

In April, the Edo state Judiciary constituted these mobile courts across the state to checkmate the violators of the prevention measures against the pandemic in the state.

The accused persons were arrested at Airport Road axis, under Oredo Magistrate District for not making appropriate use of facemasks, an Act stated in Regulations 8(6) (C) of Edo State Dangerous Infectious Disease regulation 2020.

The offenders were sentenced to either two to three days of community service of two to three hours to clear grasses at the magistrate court by government house, and to pay a fine of N2, 000 to N5, 000.
