The Chairman of the Eket Senatorial District AKSG Covid-19 Church Monitoring Committee, Mr Frank Archibong who is also the chairman of Eket LGA has advocated that Churches and other religious organizations within Eket Senatorial District should comply to the stipulated guidelines provided by Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on the reopening of Churches and religious centres in Akwa Ibom State.
Frank Archibong made this call on Sunday 7th June, 2020 when the Monitoring team set up by Akwa Ibom State Government to monitor different Churches under Eket Senatorial District which he stands as the Chairman visited churches across Eket Senatorial District.
It was quite disheartening however to observe that some churches totally disregarded the stipulated guidelines which includes provision of running water at worship centres, hand sanitizers, the use of face mask by both worshippers and the Pastors and observation of Social Distancing during service.
The proactive Chairman of ESD monitoring team further split the committee into three on Federal Constituency basis under the Senatorial District so as to meet up with the short time for church services.
However, erring churches were advised to stick to the guidelines by CAN in operation of their Churches to avoid the risk of contacting the Covid-19 during Church Services.
Hon Frank Archibong who also thanked the State Government for listening to the yearnings of the people as it concerns reopening of Churches however donated face masks and hand sanitizers to some churches to share to members of their Church.
While speaking to the members of the Committee after the exercise, Frank Archibong frankly stated that with the poor level of compliance by some churches, it was imperative that CAN leaders in his team endeavor to have a one on one sensitization with Pastors under their reach to ensure strict adherence to the stipulated guidelines going forward in ensuring that Eket Senatorial District is Covid-19 free.
