New York Mayor lifts Curfew

New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio, lifted the one week curfew he imposed on the city due to the anti-racist protests that ravaged the city and the country at large.

In his statement on Twitter, de Blasio stated that the curfew was over, saying: “Yesterday and last night, we saw the very best of our city; the curfew is lifted, effective immediately”.

The lifting of the curfew resulted from the need to enforce the initial stage of reopening, after more than two months of lockdown, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This initial stage will allow for the resumption of construction and manufacturing.

Over the past days, images and videos of police officers maltreating or beating up black citizens of the States, have gone viral.

This has made New York call for the dismantling of systematic racism, shielding Police discipline records from the public, and cutting the Police Force’s annual budget of $6 billion.
