On the 21 September, 2019, the Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Yahaya Bello was travelling from Lokoja to Okene and ran into gridlock occasioned by deplorable state of the road.The governor has maintained this road consistently from 2016-2019 when the cost of maintenance became too much for the state government.
The Governor, seeing the anguish the commuters faced on that road made a U-turn and returned to Lokoja first. Called the Minister of Works and Housing then proceeded to Abuja that same day to have interaction with the minister.
The Governor described Okene-Lokoja road ‘an eyesore,’ and called for FG intervention immediately.
Today, the Okene-Lokoja dual carriageway is under construction.
Just last week, the Governor , through the commissioner for works and Housing, Kogi State has declared “operation zero potholes” in Lokoja and its environ. Work is ongoing.
