We all know vacations are one thing everyone looks forward to …so I bring to you the Salem Oregon, At the heart of the Willamette Valley in northern Oregon, the capital city of Salem is one of the largest in the state. Less than an hour drive from Portland, Salem boasts many unique attractions, including a gilded Oregon Pioneer atop the State Capitol building overlooking the surrounding landscape. Visiting public gardens, children’s museums, and riverfront carousels are some of the many fun things to do in Salem, and enchanted theme parks, prestigious universities, and the Willamette Heritage Center provide even more places to visit. Outdoor and often free things to do in Salem include leisurely commutes through natural areas like Minto-Brown Island Park, where the setting sun often touches down in a sea of color. Romantic places and restaurants abound in the downtown district of Salem, as well as many fun things to do at night, including weekly events at the historic Elsinore Theatre. Salem offers many restaurants, hotels and tourist attractions and appeals to a wide variety of interests – from sports tournaments to art fairs. Plus, you can see gorgeous cherry trees.

- Museums: History is a large part of Salem, so it’s only natural there’d be a list of museums to explore. Deepwood Museum and Gardens is a stunning historic home with rich wood interiors and stained glass windows, along with extensive gardens throughout the property. The Gilbert House is an interactive children’s museum with tons of hands-on exploration. The Oregon World War II Memorial serves as an important reminder of less peaceful times. Shining light into the lives of a local family of the 19th century is the Bush House Museum. Antique furnishings, gardens, artifacts and the second oldest conservatory in the west make this a cool stop. So guess you need to check out the museums 🙂…
- Salem Ale works: Wind the day down with local brews and hard ciders at Salem Ale Works. A list of beer is made onsite, and range from sharp IPAs to milder selections. Guests can tour the brewery or chow down on unexpectedly delicious American fare from fried pickles and cauliflower, to juicy burgers and zesty fries. Food trucks are often around as well. Everyone’s happy.
- Art galleries: Art is ever present in Salem, from local creations at the Bush Barn Art Center in the Pasture Park to the Hallie Ford Museum of Art’s impressive display of Native American, Pacific Northwest, European and Asian Art. One can truly experience something local by watching community actors nail performances in Little Shop of Horrors, Frankenstein, Dracula and other classics. Grab some beer or wine and relax in your comfy theater chairs. Elsinore and Capitol City theaters are also great picks for entertainment. I mean who doesn’t like a good theater.
- The Salem haunted magic show:This specific show is only available during the Halloween season, from September to November. Still, it can be worth your while if you’re looking for a haunted experience. Every year, the show’s theme is changed. In the past, they’ve focused their shows on phobias, mental asylums, and fraudulent psychic mediums. Every show aims to intertwine entertainment with messages and lessons about the specific subject. Every show is completely different and unique – even if you attend multiple times during your stay. The show is about 75 minutes long and audience participation is encouraged, though never forced. Creepy right???
