Can you get rip of herpes?

Unfortunately there is no cure for herpessimplex virus (HSV), but you can get rid of herpes outbreaks and their symptoms.

Various prescription medications, over-the-counter-medications, and home remedies are available to help prevent outbreaks and manage symptoms.

The best way to “get rid” of herpes symtpoms is to never get them in the first place. Here are some ways to prevent the spread of HSV.

Herpes gets transferred from person to person by skin to skin contact (you cannot get herpes from surfaces e.g.toilet seats or clothes).

Using safe-sex practices such as condoms and dental dams can help reduce the chance of transmitting or contracting HSV, but they do not cover 100% of the area and thus aren’t 100% effective.

Also, you should never engage in intercourse with someone who has blisters or sores on their genitals or mouth.

If you have HSV, talk with your partner about the risks before engaging in sexual contact.

Many people who have HSV do not show any symptoms and may not even know they have it. This complicates prevention as viral shedding can occur without any symptoms and HSV is still very contagious during this time.

If you do have herpes, there are many things you can do to avoid outbreaks.

Various triggers contribute to herpes outbreaks for infected individuals.

Such triggers can be environmental or physiological and include:

  • Physical or emotional stress
  • Fatigue
  • Menstruation
  • Illness
  • Intercourse
  • Weather (UV rays, cold, heat, or wind)

Prevention is an excellent approach to illness. Get good rest, work on reducing stress in your life, and keep up a healthy immune system (diet, exercise, sleep, hygiene, etc.) to help avoid a herpes outbreak.

The chances of a herpes outbreak can also be reduced with the help of prescription medications.
