It was the biggest shock of the day. After defeating newly inaugurated champions,Liverpool 4 goals to nil on Thursday one would assume that a Southampton side would be a walkover .
Surprisingly though,it was Southampton side who were victors at the end of the day. Che Adams ended his long wait for an EPL goal with an amazing long-range strike in the 16th minute right there at the St Mary’s Stadium. It was an early goal and all thought Man City would easily equalise and subsequently win the game. But that was not the case as Alex McCarthy,goalkeeper for Southampton pulled in some amazing saves to keep the lead right until Full time.
Pep Guardiola rested Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden along with some others that played against Liverpool and City’s lack of fluency was attributed to that fact. Chances came begging even after Adams’ goal,but none found the back of the net.
City were handed their ninth EPL defeat of the season, massive compared to last season’s tally and their third away defeat in a row.
In other results for Sunday :
Newcastle and West Ham United played a 2 all draw at St James’ park. This is the first time in eight away matches that West Ham are taking away any point from an away game. They are now four points clear of 18th placed Aston Villa who were defeated 2-0 later in the day.
Meanwhile are now unbeaten in 6 matches and move up to 12th position in the EPL standings.
Burnley 1-1 Sheffield United.
