… as Edo takes delivery of fire truck

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that the state government is strengthening synergy with the Federal Fire Service for a robust enforcement mechanism to prevent and contain fire disasters in the state.

The governor gave the assurance at the inauguration of a six-thousand-litre capacity firefighting truck deployed by the Federal Fire Service, at Government House in Benin City.

Obaseki assured, “We would continue to rely on you to help us in terms of our design to respond to fire disasters in the state. One of the measures put in place in the state is to ensure we have hydrants and water sources in most public places particularly at the market.

“Our Command and Control Centre set up to fight fire would be linked with your Centre to respond to fire disasters in the state.”

He expressed appreciation to the Federal Controller General of the Fire Service for assisting the state in managing fire outbreaks, adding, “He promptly rose to the occasion and instantly deployed a sophisticated truck from the neighboring state and deployed officers to support and train the State Fire Service.”

Earlier, the Controller General, Dr. Ibrahim Liman, who was represented by the Assistant Controller General, Federal Operation, Thompson Mohammed, said the deployment of the firefighting assets to states is in line with the resolve of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the safety of lives and property.

He added that the fire-fighting truck deployed to Edo State will ensure a robust partnership with the state government to minimise fire threats in the state.
