FG stops resumption of unity schools
The Federal Government has stalled the planned resumption of unity schools in the trail of the announcement of the date for WASSCE 2020 examinations.
Furthermore, it stopped students from taking part in the WASSCE examinations which were scheduled earlier for August 4 to September 5.
This was disclosed by Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, to State House Correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
Adamu said that unity schools would remain shut till it is considered safe to resume. He further urged state governments who have plans to reopen schools soon to have a rethink.
He said that WAEC cannot determine the date of resumption for Nigerian schools. He said that it’s preferable to lose an academic year than for students to be exposed to health hazards in this period of COVID-19 pandemic.
